Electro-Funk

Felix makes electro-funk for the back booth at 1am. Slap-bass synths, vocoder harmonies, disco strings cutting across funk- guitar chops, the kind of drum programming that owes Daft Punk a royalty. The voice is baritone and dry — talk-singing the verses, falsetto on the hooks, a punchline tucked in every bridge. The references show their work: French touch production, Chromeo's swagger, Breakbot's nu-disco warmth, Purple Disco Machine's modern sheen. Lyrics live in cocktail bars — the right table, the wrong text, the friend at the bar nobody warned you about. Made for mirror ceilings, chrome bar tops, a long ride home in someone else's car.

Going for

The aim is the modern Random Access Memories slot — a record that earns its disco lineage without dressing up as a museum piece. Felix wants nu-disco with songs underneath the groove, where the slap-bass does the work but the bridge has a real pivot. Long-term: a full-length you can play start to finish at a dinner party that becomes a dance floor by the time the entrées clear.

    Off-stage

    • Maintains a private cocktail menu, indexed by artist he is listening to that week.
    • Owns three pairs of identical black loafers, all in different stages of scuffed.
    • Refuses to write hooks before midnight. Believes daylight ruins falsetto.
    • Keeps a small Polaroid of every dance floor he has played. Files them by light condition.
    • Quietly collects 80s Italo-disco 12-inches. Will not be drawn on the prize of the collection.
